On Saturday, January 18, 2025, LABS Contemporary Art will present the exhibition Observatorium by Elisabeth Scherffig.
This marks the first time the German artist’s work will be hosted by the Bologna-based gallery. The exhibition presents around twenty pieces created between the 1970s and today, offering an in-depth exploration of Scherffig's creative methodology. A meticulous investigator of her surroundings, Scherffig employs drawing, casting, and sculpture to examine both urban spaces and nature, which she perceives as an organism in constant metamorphosis.
Curated by art historian Angela Madesani, the exhibition does not follow a chronological order but instead creates dialogues between works. These dialogues reveal the underlying threads that demonstrate the consistency of Scherffig’s artistic journey. Among her works are cycles of drawings—some of monumental scale—depicting places undergoing transformation.
Observatorium functions on two levels: it reflects the artist’s observational approach to her environment and offers visitors an opportunity to immerse themselves in her research, requiring attentiveness and precision.
The exhibition will run until Apr. 5, 2025.
